Brighton Playgroup

Frequently Asked Questions

Location MapQ: Where is Butler Playgroup Located?
A: We are situated in the new Community Centre in Kingsbridge Park. Access to the carpark is via Connolly Drive.

Q: What session times are offered?
A: We currently have sessions running from 9.30am to 12 noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. A new baby session for under ones is starting on Monday afternoons from Aug 11.

Q: What are the fees for joining Butler Playgroup?
A: Term fees are $25 per family, which goes towards rent, infrastructure, craft supplies and toys. As well as this money (which comes directly to us) a yearly insurance and membership payment of $27 is collected for Playgroup WA, our umbrella organisation.

Q: What is the format of a playgroup session?
A: As well as free-play toys being set out during the whole session, a craft activity is run each week, with the assistance of the parent.  After the activity, tables are set for morning tea, with each parent bringing a piece of fruit or other snack to share. In some sessions either some singing and dancing is organised, or a story is told.  Parents are expected to assist in the session by following a roster of jobs (such as wiping down the tables after morning tea, or cutting up fruit), but we are all parents and understand the need to run after our children at times, or breastfeed, so things are very flexible!

Q: What kind of toys and activities do you have?
A: Activities vary from session to session, week to week.  Most involve colouring, painting, gluing etc. to make a novelty item (like macaroni necklaces or potato stamping). Toys range from play 'castles', dress-ups and dolls, to blocks, trucks, infant toys and play dough.  The new Centre also includes outdoor play areas.

Q: What age are the children at playgroup?
A: Ages vary from session to session, but all preschool ages are welcome, from newborn (usually younger siblings of other attendees) to 5 year olds.

Q: My child has allergies. What provisions are in place for this?
A: The allergies of each child are noted when you join so that the supervisor of each session is aware of any issues.  On top of this, parents are requested not to bring any nut or egg products to playgroup for snacks.

Q: How do I join?
